Three community fitness events open registration this week for runs and walks set along the Gulf Road and through Salmiya.
The summer calendar fills quickly once morning temperatures drop below 38 degrees. Organisers schedule early starts to avoid peak heat while capitalising on the city's established pattern of outdoor group activity that draws participants from Hawalli and Sharq alike.
Events set for Gulf Road and Al Shaheed Park
The Kuwait City Runners group hosts a 5-kilometre fun run on 22 July that begins at 5:30 a.m. near the Marina Mall entrance on Gulf Road. Entry costs 8 Kuwaiti dinars and includes a numbered bib and water stations. A separate charity walk organised by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society starts at 6 a.m. on 9 August from the north gate of Al Shaheed Park and covers 3 kilometres along adjacent streets before returning to the park grounds. Proceeds support local health outreach programmes.
Both events limit entries to 1,500 participants each. Last year the Red Crescent walk collected 12,400 dinars from 1,200 walkers, according to the society's annual report released in January. The City Runners event recorded 980 finishers in 2025.
Registration and next steps
Sign-up for the 22 July run closes on 18 July through the Kuwait City Runners website or at the desk inside the Salmiya branch of the Kuwait Sports Club. The August walk accepts entries until 5 August at Red Crescent offices on Mubarak Al Kabeer Street or via their mobile app. Participants receive route maps and hydration guidance when they collect their numbers two days before each start.
Anyone new to group events can visit the information table at Al Shaheed Park on weekday evenings to ask about training walks that meet there on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. Local medical professionals recommend a check-up before joining longer distances.
